Crafty Passeys

I posted this on Facebook and I'll be sending out an email as well...

Can we get a headcount of what you would be interested in making and who will be needing childcare and for how many children?

These are not final so we want to get an idea of what would generate the most interest

1. Hairbows, flowers, headbands, etc.
2. Retro aprons
3. Birthday Banners (see passey blog)
4. Jewelry making with Robin
5. Turning a men's shirt into a little girl's dress
6. Eating yummy food and hanging with your favorite women

So far I was planning the banners that Shanda suggested and I have all the hairbow stuff.

If you have another idea please share so we can have something else as an option too. I want to make sure there is something for everyone!

We could also have a sewing station? I know I always have those kinds of projects around too.

Hit me with your ideas!

Cool Website

www.readthescriptures.com

You can choose the speed at which you want to read (finish in 1 year or 1 chapter a day) and it sends the reading to your email inbox each day.

It's pretty cool and a nice reminder for tech geeks like me that struggle to keep the daily habit.

crafty cousins

HEY EveryBODY!
Ashley told me today she wants to have a bow making night with family.
I thought it sounded fabulous and I figure if we do that I might be able to try and make the Birthday Banner that I have been wanting to make. I want to make the ones that have individual letters on a triangular fabric swatch.
Anyone else want one? I say let's do it.
(sorry to lazy to link a site to the banners, but you can google it)

Are you Prepared?

Hey just a little idea to get you a little more prepared. No panicking here but just making a few little changes to keep you and your family safe in an emergency. I posted about water before but took another class that was very informative. So here are a couple of tips. You don't have to rotate water that is stored properly the first time. WHAT! I did not know that but this is something I learned. Just do it and forget about it. This simple idea could save your life and make things easier in an emergency too. Start buying your soda in liter bottles and when its gone rinse really well. You can even use a little bleach to make sure it it is really clean. The idea is to store very clean water to start and then forget about it. The next idea is to simply put water in your empty laundry detergent and Clorox bottles. Don't even worry about rinsing out the soap. Just label them for cleaning only. Just fill them up with water and store them everywhere under beds, in the garage, deep cupboards etc. Every time I empty a bottle I immediately fill it with water and every time a little voice in my head says "Way to go" you are on a roll. It feels so good to do the right thing and be prepared. Now I know none of us have enough room in our houses to store a whole year supply of water but store as much as you possibly can. Find a way to make extra room and then start thinking about getting some kind of water filtration system. So that you can clean any water you find in an emergency, but I'll go more into that another time. Its also a good idea for every household to do this. Don't expect that your mom's house will have everything you need. What if you can't get to mom's? Just a thought. This is counsel from our prophet not just a good idea. So get busy and do this one. It really is a no brainer.

Oh and just think of all the plastic we will be keeping out of the landfills. We are going green too.

Pot Stickers

1/2 pound ground pork
1 green onion, finely chopped
2 water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 (14 ounce) package wonton wrappers
5 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup water

DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, mix together the pork, green onion, water chestnuts, salt and sesame oil. Place a tablespoon of the pork mixture into each of the wonton wrappers. Fold the wrappers, and seal the edges with a moistened fork.
In a large, deep skillet, heat 3 tablespoons vegetable oil over medium high heat. Place the pot stickers into the oil seam sides up. Stirring constantly, heat 30 seconds to a minute. Pour water into the skillet. Gently boil 7 to 8 minutes, until oil and water begins to sizzle, then add remaining oil. When the bottoms begin to brown, remove pot stickers from heat.
Ashley made them for me on New Year's Eve. Delish!

a new Barnes

UPDATE:
Keara and Alan had their baby girl this morning.
Around 7 their time (am).
Still tossing around a name.
She weighed 8lbs. 14 oz.
That's all I know. Oh her contractions started hard at 2:30 in the morning.
So it went FAST, which is what we like.
Say she looks like Calvin with Keara's ears.

This is all I know but thought I'd put it out there. these were taken from the phone, so there will be better ones to come.

Change it already!

Hey Jilly...change the stinkin background on the family blog...PLEASE. I tried to do it but apparently I'm not special enough to do so.

Also, note to family...I made the cheese ball recipe in the book Jill & Beth gave us and took it to our New Year's Eve party and it was a hit. Even the kids ate it. I used sliced almonds and cracker crumbs for the outer coating and YUMMY. I think I made a meal out of it.

Loves and thanks for a great gift Jill & Beth. It was great to see Mom again.
